Library & Learning Centre
The Library at Freshwater is centrally located on Level 3; it offers easy access to all students and teachers. There are many resources located within the Library; these include books to cater for all Key Learning Areas; magazines relevant to the needs of students; computers with state of the art display screens; photocopying and printing facilities; video players with a huge library of tapes; search terminals and associated human helpers and too many other resources to list here.
Many teachers use the Library as a multifaceted resource centre for extending the research capabilities of their students. Students can access the Library search terminal from each computer and can also read those of other libraries within the College; this gives students an even greater choice in reading matter.
Many different software packages are available on all our computers; one which has been a great asset to the HSC cohort is the “ Standard Packages “ which enable students to view answers to past HSC exams and their rankings ; this gives students a yardstick for their own performance.
All students have their own unique password and their own U drive wherein they can store all their own work; the system allows students to transfer their own work between school and home electronically. This is a great asset to students as it maximises their efficiency and the management of their workload.
The Library is open extended hours every day and either the Librarian or a teacher is available to the students at all times. Many teachers bring their classes to the Library for easy access to the relevant resources for their current topic of study. This is of added benefit to the students in their quest for information as current knowledge is an imperative for HSC examinations.
The audio-visual section of the Library has been enhanced by the school acquiring a Foxtel connection; this gives a greater spectrum of programmes from which to choose; Foxtel History Channel has aired some superb programs on Ancient Egypt this year which have been a great adjunct to the school’s History Department.
The Library and its staff endeavour at all times to assist both students and teachers in their efforts to achieve a more efficient access to the best resources available on the Northern Beaches.
