Students in Language Class

The teaching of Languages Other Than English (LOTE) is characterised by a learning environment that focuses on interactive, animated learning experiences that immerse students in the target language. Included in our most exciting projects are overseas visits.

Enrichment of skills in listening, speaking, script writing and giving direction occurs in a “real world” environment so that students can see the significance of their class room language learning. They can gain confidence in using the language when travelling overseas, communicating with visitors from other countries and if working for foreign companies.

The opportunity to travel to various countries such as Italy, Japan and Austria further enhances skills and gives the opportunity for students to show their projects to their host students. Our student exchange program is thriving, and the cultural and linguistic awareness that results leads to deep knowledge and understanding of both their target language and the cultural background of the visited country.

Courses taught include:

  • French – Beginners and Continuers
  • German – Beginners and Continuers
  • Italian – Beginners and Continuers
  • Japanese – Beginners and Continuers
  • Chinese – Background Speakers

Students also have access to study other languages through either Open High School or Saturday School.
