History
History at Freshwater is vibrant, relevant and very engaging. It is not only a key element of our curriculum, but also integral to the school culture.
A strong emphasis on interactive learning includes role play, simulation, hands on exploration and examination of primary and secondary sources including artifacts, letters, memoirs, diaries and visual sources. Student centred activities ensure high levels of engagement and interest which is enhanced through effective integration of computer technology. Student excursions include museums and site visits as well as study and enrichment days at tertiary institutions.
Our history teachers are committed to teaching our students not only about history, but about how to learn about history. They are passionate about their courses and their collaborative and collegial approach to programming and development of resources has led to rich learning experiences for all of our students.
Both Ancient History and Modern History students are able to study the History Extension Course as part of their HSC. This is an option that is proving to be increasingly popular for students who have a strong interest in their study of History.
